Start with evidence, not the new navigation
A redesign changes far more than the interface. URLs, internal links, content depth, page intent, rendering and structured data can all move at once. The first job is to understand which parts of the existing site already create value.
Export landing-page performance, conversions, backlinks, indexed URLs and current rankings before the architecture is changed. That evidence identifies pages that must be protected, consolidated carefully or given a stronger role in the new system.

Map intent before mapping redirects
A redirect spreadsheet is not the strategy. First decide which new page best satisfies the intent of each valuable old URL. One-to-one redirects are ideal when the purpose remains the same; consolidation is appropriate when several weak pages compete for the same topic.
Never send every retired URL to the homepage. It creates a poor user experience and tells search engines that the old relevance has no meaningful replacement.
Protect the signals hidden in the design
Large headlines and dramatic images are not an SEO problem. Missing content hierarchy, inaccessible navigation and important copy hidden behind interaction can be. The final build should preserve semantic headings, descriptive links, crawlable body content and useful image alternatives.
Validate canonical tags, robots directives, sitemaps, structured data, pagination and JavaScript rendering in a production-like environment before launch.
Treat launch as the start of the migration
Submit the sitemap, monitor coverage and crawl errors, test the highest-value redirects and compare conversion behaviour immediately after release. Small launch defects become expensive when they remain invisible for weeks.
A disciplined thirty-day monitoring window should track indexation, ranking movement, organic landing-page sessions, leads and any unexpected changes in branded search behaviour.
