Which Google result is missing?
A missing product can mean two different things: its website page is absent from ordinary search results, or its listing is absent from Google Shopping and other product surfaces. Start by naming the missing result and choosing one product ID and URL to investigate.
For a website page, use Search Console URL Inspection to assess indexing. For a product listing, inspect the relevant product in Merchant Center and its destination status. These systems answer different questions; approval in one is not proof of visibility in the other.
Check publication and channel availability
Shopify lets merchants choose which products are available to the Google & YouTube channel. Check the product status, Online Store availability and the connected channel before diagnosing a missing feed item. A draft or excluded item needs a publication decision, not a new SEO paragraph.
Inspect the exact variant the customer would buy. Confirm that its price, availability, image and selected options match the website. Document any intentional exclusions so an optimisation pass does not accidentally publish products that the business cannot fulfil.
- Product and variant are intended for sale
- Online Store availability is correct
- Google & YouTube availability is correct
- The destination country and language are intended
Find the specific sync or policy issue
The Google & YouTube channel imports product data from Shopify, but additional information may be needed to complete synchronisation. Check the product's status and missing fields in the channel, then compare the corresponding Merchant Center record.
Review the account requirements and product warnings independently. Correct the named issue using accurate source data. Do not invent identifiers, brands, compatibility claims or availability to make a warning disappear. If shipping services are ambiguous, use the separate shipping guide rather than changing unrelated product fields.
Inspect the landing page as a customer and a crawler
Open the product URL without signing in. Confirm the page works, identifies the intended product and provides a usable purchase path. For organic indexing, review HTTP status, robots directives, the canonical URL and the rendered content in Search Console.
An alternative canonical, crawl restriction or redirected URL requires investigation before changing copy. Indexing is not guaranteed even when a URL passes technical checks. Give important products relevant collection links and useful information that distinguishes them from a manufacturer's generic listing.
Verify a representative sample before scaling
Choose products from different collections, stock states and variant patterns. Fix and verify the sample before applying a catalogue-wide change. Record the exact fields changed so price, inventory, descriptions and URLs are protected when they are outside the approved scope.
Review website indexing, feed processing and listing eligibility separately after the change. Only then assess impressions, clicks and purchases. Keep the diagnostic record so the next product issue starts with evidence rather than another full-store rewrite.
Review a sample before changing the catalogue.
Use the product visibility checker to record the missing surface and your checks. Get a next-step plan for a representative product before scaling.
